Garden Art
by Ivy Lane
What a year this has been! Craft shows cancelled – Paint & Sip events cancelled – all due to the pandemic. What has not been cancelled are the beautiful leaves from my garden plants!
I live along the Little Flatbrook and Skunk Cabbage is flourishing. The elongated shape and strong veins bring gorgeous textures to bowls and bird baths. Not to be outdone, Elephant Ear leaves are coming to life after a season of careful storage in my basement. They are huge! And the widely spaced lines create individual chambers that are so challenging to paint….the metallic colors explode on the smooth surfaces. And now, making their spring debut are my Rhubarb Plants. Dependable for their individuality in size and structure, they are the standard for my bird baths and larger bowls. Lovely to paint, easy for those who want to paint their own.
Last year as plants were having their last hurrah, I experimented with Cabbage leaves. Joe found heads with huge leaves and stunning textures that are very different from other plants. I think he bought them in hopes of Stuffed Cabbage or making Sauerkraut. Instead, I commandeered them to my shop, wacked off the leaves and cast very different bird baths, somewhat symmetrical in shape with intriguing leaf patterns.
Please check my FaceBook page for a listing of shows and events. I will update on a regular basis. If you have questions or wish to arrange for a Paint & Sip event, please call 973-903-0470.
Here's looking forward to a better year in 2021.
